Alright. I'm on track with Day 2!

I created a list post, 4 Ways to Get Your New Blog Some Exposure, to talk about basic blog marketing strategies for new bloggers.

I must say that I don't like this style of writing! lol I ended up writing a mammoth post, that should have been an article, so I shortened it to what it is now because my posts tend to be long. I decided to chop up the list into sections to use later as more in-depth posts and in fact, you'll see that #1, I promoted a post that will come out later this week, as a teaser.

Cheers,

Hi all... I want to be diligent in following the guide, so I'm posting my elevator pitches here. On my blog, I used the longer pitch as the FIRST thing on my About page, and the shorter pitch as an intro to my opt-in form.

With me, all feedback is appreciated so if you have any, fire away!

Couple things to note are that my blog caters to women and my tagline is Behind Every Good Woman is a Good Blog. I want to keep the tagline the way that it is and form my pitches around that.

Question: Since my target market involves two niches - new bloggers and women bloggers, how best to incorporate both into the pitches? I figure that my tagline and avatar are clearly targeting women, so I left the women part out of the pitches. Thoughts?

Blog: BizChickBlogs.com

Short Pitch: BizChickBlogs.com provides new bloggers useful, detailed advice on how to start and grow an incredible blog.

Long Pitch: Brand new bloggers are often at a loss for exactly where to go to find out how to start blogging, and many of the big blogging websites are not useful to them because (1) they cater to professional bloggers and (2) the detail is not broken down enough to digest easily. BizChickBlogs.com provides a more intimate setting for starting and growing a blog and provides easy to digest, uncomplicated “start here” articles. Here, new bloggers can find content to help them start from nothing, and create a blog with readership and community.

Brand new at this...loving the community motivation and feedback. Here's my elevator pitch, long and short:

THEdentalPROBE

Resources for the CNY Dental Hygienist - all in one place.

My mission is twofold - to bring the diverse skills and lessons I've learned in my career to other Dental Hygiene professionals and to provide an ongoing inventory of local and international resources for career development and advancement. Whenever I go looking for those resources - local jobs and continuing education courses, salary scales, resume services, books, articles and career development opportunities, I find them scattered in a myriad of places. My goal is to bring it all together for your convenience.

Would love feedback.

Mind mapping is the key! Thanks Darren. I just got started so the more material I have the better. I try to carry a notepad in order to capture all my flouting thoughts for provoking posts but sometimes I am driving and I am stuck! Maybe I can use a recorder? Hmm...

Organizing my ideas for posts into catergories helps me think of more. For instance when I think of expanding on what "The Acting Room" page is for I can think of how to link older posts and future posts so that the room flows; everything is connected. Is that a bad idea?

I'll be back to post some more replies. Thanks again...I never thought i'd be this excited about blogging! Ha!

This post is of great help to my new blog. I have managed to use this ideas to group my post into sensible categories which make navigation much easier.

By writing down on paper (just a few post will do), it is easy to see the patterns of the post and how one can cluster them into categories.

Hey all-

First I would like to say that it truly is impressive to see the number of great blogs out there. There is a lot of creativity on this thread alone which is inspiring. I recently created a blog called Tax Docket @ www.taxdocket.com.

My short tag line is "Substance over Form"

My elevator pitch which I have included on the "Our Spiel" page states that: "Tax Docket will provide you with an informative tax resource that will offer students, professionals and anyone with an interest in learning something new about the tax world with daily musings on current tax-related events. Tax Docket will deliver that knowledge in an informative yet entertaining (yes, tax can be fun) manner."

I look forward to reading any comments about my pitch.

- Josh

Share a link to your List Post - http://mod4.com/blog/2010/02/10-tips-for-better-wedding-photos/

How did you find writing it? It was actually pretty easy. I have had these thoughts living in my head for years anyways, so getting them down in words was pretty simple.

What tips would you give to others writing lists? As a photographer, I find that posts without images are pretty dull. I like to see images with a post. For my list, I gave each point it's own image.

How did readers respond to your post? People are loving the tips I gave and I have been linked from two wedding planners blogs already~!

Do you use lists posts on your blog regularly? Will you? I have never really used a list before, but I think I will continue to do so every once in a while.

Mummy, lifetime stitcher and reader, fab cook, terrible gardener, improving writer. My husband and I own Victoria House Needlecraft, Australia's oldest speciality needlecraft store.

I answer to Dionne White in polite company.

My blogs are; shop www.victoriahouseneedlecraft.com.au/blog/, personal www.Mummysews.wordpress.com

I can also be found on Facebook and LinkdIn as Dionne White, and Twitter as Victoria_House_. Victoria House Needlecraft also has a Facebook page.

Needs associated with Shop blog, ensuring that the blog is an enhancement to the customers online experience. Generates curiosity and interest in people trying new things and the enjoyment of making something beautiful for their home or for a gift. Create enjoyment and anticipation as to what will come next.

Needs associated with Personal blog, pure escapism, to throw around my more flamboyant moments in a forum that won't offend customers. This is a pure indulgence, practice to make the shop blog better, soapbox to get stuff off my chest. Still feeling mildly silly thinking I will have the time for both! Rationalise with "I will get better twice as fast!"

I decided to embark on the project on the Twitter recommendation of Michelle Gamble of Marketing Angels. She did a talk on e-commerce or e-tailing at a Trade/Gift fair that blew my mind and I knew I had to completely re-think how I was going to set up the shops' website. I had to start from scratch as the previous owner did not have one. I have a degree in English and can talk my head off, so communication is not a problem but I really have done nothing in blogging and knew the shop and I would benefit from something like this. I joined this forum to have someone else to talk with about what I am doing, bounce ideas off etc

Proper Introduction to the Forex Tree Dude

by Forex Tree Dude

I got started in blogging by guest blogging at Winner's Edge Trading. This post is based on my first article there. When you picture a Forex trader you probably don't think of someone like me. I've spent most of my life working outdoors. On a clear day you can find me up in a tree, taking down a dead branch or crawling under a tractor to hook up a rototiller. At first glance I don't look like someone who can master Forex. The fact of the matter is, though, that I'm getting older. I'm not too old to climb trees yet, but I can tell the time is coming soon. When I asked my accountant what he thought about my learning the system, he exclaimed "you're nuts! Don't do it! You're not cut out to be a trader!" It's the same reaction I got from most of the people who know me. Before you get indignant on my behalf, you should know that their judgment is not unsound. I was one of those kids that just sort of snuck his way through school. Today school systems have a bunch of different types of support for kids who aren't good with regular "book learnin'." Whether or not these modern systems would have helped me is debatable. I knew I was going to be a farmer and, the way I saw it, farmers didn't need to study or do well in school—they learned from the land. Obviously, I've been making mistakes for a long long time! Currently I live in south eastern Pennsylvania and work as a landscaper and tree surgeon. I specialize in building pastures for the equine industry in my area. One of the things I am most known for is growing turf to feed horses. You might not know that horses can't eat just any old grass. The chemicals that are used to grow residential lawns, for example, are harmful to horses. Early on I was forced to learn not only how nature created turf-based food for horses but to reproduce that process manually. I work when the weather cooperates. This means that if it is muddy or wet or snowing (or any kind of inclement weather, really) outside, I don't work. I don't punch a traditional 9 to 5 clock. I do the work when the work needs to be done, whether that means getting up at four in the morning to do emergency tree work or spending thirty straight hours plowing snow. I long ago learned that the buck stopped with me. After all, if I don't do the work then I don't get paid! Unfortunately, as I already wrote, I'm getting older. My "get up and go" has slowly turned into "okay, just one more cup of coffee and then I'm getting to it." The broken conveyor for the fire wood pile isn't feeling as urgent as it used to. This means that I have needed to find something new to do—something that I can do no matter what the weather is like or how much physical energy I have that day. In 2004 I started noticing commercials about the Forex markets. The commercials made Forex trading look incredibly easy to do! According to the commercials, all I had to do was plunk down some money and then follow (what looked like) a simple program and I could retire in a week. The hook was set. I started my journey to Forex trading and, I have to be honest, the journey has not been easy. Sometimes that journey has been down right painful! Don't you worry: this isn't going to be a sob fest! While I admit I have made some (major and costly) mistakes, I have also learned a lot. The biggest lesson that I have learned is that what some of those commercials have said is true: anybody can be a Forex trader. Heck, if I, a modest tree dude who is used to working with his hands and with barely a smidge of book learnin' in my brain, can make a go of Forex, so can you!

It very common that most are not willing to share their mistakes they have made in this industry, which is filled with pitfalls every were that would love nothing better to separate you from you monies. The Finical Sector is filled with very polished and well trained people some with good harts and intensions and some not. This is a series that will help the not so well educated, polished and perhaps new persons such as myself, so that they will not need to make the same mistakes I did. As this blog grows we will include others to share the same stories and solutions they found along the way.

My surname is Rattray and we often hear others talking about 'getting away from the rat race' - very close to 'getting away from the Rattrays' I think.

So I played around with this idea and decided to use a picture of the Pied Piper using music to lure interested prospects, as opposed to rats!

I got a couple of first-time readers with general good comments, haven't gotten any critical feeback yet. I'm still looking for more first-time readers.

EF Cussins, I went to your blog as a first-time reader. Here are some thoughts:

1. The site is neat, eye-pleasing, and easy to nevigate. The picture in “diarrhea 911” is memorable to me, I love it --- context wise only.
2. I can see why “Black Friday” post was popular, because it is something with new information (at least to me) and practical value for readers, esp. during this economic downtime.
3. There is some space open in your sidebar, maybe you can have “Popular posts” section, functioning as “Sneeze section” (if not a page), and “Black Friday” will be one of them.
4. I didn’t have time to go through more, but generally it looked great. It appears niche-focused and value-driven.
5. One thing you might add to your category is sport or recreation, such as exercise equipment, gym membership, etc. If you want to cover almost everything, you might not want to miss something from your long list.

Hope this is helpful.
