Day 16 - Solve a Problem [Writing Challenge]

(41 posts)
  1. Today your task is a writing challenge and is all about solving poblems for readers. I can't stress enough how important it is to get your head around this type of post. If you're solving problems with your posts  you make an impression, create loyal readers and build blogs that people tell others about.

    1. What problem did you solve today?
    2. Share the link to the post you write below.
    3. Once you've submitted a link - how about promoting to your network one of the other links that someone else writes?

  2. While I'm already in the business of working on solving problems (it's what my blog is all about) I really would like to engage more with my readers and solve problems together..

Please use the contact information on my blog and tell me about a problem you would like me to blog about, perhaps we can find an answer together.

my biggest problem was staying focused. Yesterday I wrote about my sollution and how it helped me to get in focus. My sollution was zen meditation.. Have you had the same problem and found a different sollution? Tell me all about it.

Mind the beginner A blog on beginning, it sounds so simple but it’s quite complex

  3. Interesting challenge, especially to me, as I have gotten accustomed to write about my thoughts. I need to sit down and do some serious thinking over this. Perhaps even resort into doing some research, too...

    Thank you Darren!

  4. I spend many hours on the elliptical machine and during those hours my feet tend to go numb. A while ago I ran across another woman who experienced that same phenomenon. So I thought it was time to tackle this issue once and for all.

You might presume the answer is to step away from the elliptical machine but I say there must be an answer that does not involve avoidance.

In my travels I found some interesting information which I have presented in a tidy little package today called "Cardiogirl Tightwad Disorder or Elliptical Trainer Sleepy Foot Syndrome, you decide"

  5. I do this a lot. Mainly as I learn new things, and struggle to do other thing. When I eventually find a solutions. I try to document it and the blog about it. I fihure that there might be someone else who is having the same problem that I am having.

A good example would be Joomla, PHP, Mysql, Windows Vista, IIS. How to get these working together.

Check it out @ Installing Joomla onto Vista, IIS7 with PHP5.2 and MySQL 5

And what did I find, that there indeed were others that were experiencing the exact same problem I was able to share how I came right. Problem Solved.

I find that this is a easy topic to blog about, as it is right in my groove, I am able to write about what I know, what I experience, knowing that others could have the same problem. People want their problems sorted out.

If done correctly, these type of posts will find good value in Google Searches as well. IE "How to install Joomla onto Vista"

    Thanks

  6. Great challenge and great introduction to it. I especially liked the use of the search referrals and internal searches, as I have not payed very much attention to them. Today I settled on writing about a solution about a problem that was on my mind for quite a while: the replacement of Google notebook - a tool that I have been using for quite a while. http://info.ulrich-schrader.de/node/640

  7. i had a hard time with this since my opinionated ant blog is basically her rants.
so i choose something that may not be very useful (okay silly) to many but eliza leigh (the ant) really enjoyed it.  this was really a post to get my feet wet.  i'm going to sit down though and go through the 7 different ways to try to brainstorm some problems eliza might be able to answer.

the post is about getting over telephone phobias to be able to order your favorite take-out.  i warned you it was silly (this is what happens when you work nights and have no sleep!)

i'll be back on here later on tonight to look at all the other posts.

    see you all soon.

  8. I have done some of these types of posts.  This post on How to get your child to sleep Fits the problem scenario.  I am going to ask my twitter followers and readers for questions they want answered.  I love that idea.  I also might revisit the sleep post and go into some other suggestions to solve that problem.

  9. I've just posted my task for today. I was scratching my head trying to work out what to write when an email popped in from a reader asking "How do you find the time to write two blogs?" So thanks to Jenny, and here's the answer:

  10. I must have been psychic!  I wrote a post yesterday trying to answer friends' and colleagues' frustrations over Twitter.  Try as they might they don't "get" Twitter.  Hence, my post, Twitter:  It's all in the following.  (Maybe I should send to Oprah since she's only following 10 folks?)

  12. I'd already written a post for today, but this exercise gave me a good excuse to expand on something I'd written in that post. The topic is on how to write an effective call to action.  Here it is:

  13. I ended up responding to a silly question asked in Twitter. Had bit of fun with it, but still managed to get a serious post. Not my best, but there has been results already.

The question was about eating easter eggs for lunch and I ended up listing some healthier addings to those eggs: http://jokapaivaistaleipaa.blogspot.com/2009/04/suklaamunia-lounaaksi.html

And I do have a follow-up in my mind too.

  14. Hi Darren,

My new blog is about helping people discover  social networking.

I always give credit to appropriate the blog, such as Problogger as needed, and encourage newbies as well.

Check it out at:   http://coolwired.wordpress.com .

Is using RSS feeds one of the lessons in the 31DBBB Challenge? I hope so!

It would be easier to learn it from the expert.  ;-)

    Keep smiling! @ Coolwired

  15. Oops! I meant:

I always "give credit to the Appropriate blog".

Isn't it funny, how a simple change in words can change the meaning??

    Keep smiling, bloggers!

  16. I started my various posts about Twitter as a way of answering the questions I faced as a new Twitter user. Just posted What to tweet (and what not to).

How do you plan to bring rock n' roll into your house decor?

I had fun, so thanks Darren.

  18. my post is not a tutorial, it is a little tool.  since my readers are crafters/seamstresses/maker of things, i posted a printable chart for them to take to the fabric store.  the chart lists the yardage conversions for various widths of fabric.  for those who don't sew:  commercial patterns all specify the width of fabric to be used and give layout diagrams for that width of fabric.  many people choose a fabric that is a different width, so this chart will help them figure out how much more or less they need to buy to accomodate the pattern. http://www.rostitchery.com/2009/04/yardage-conversion-chart.html   *edited to correct URL

  21. Here is my latest post:  http://cioassistant.wordpress.com/2009/04/22/a-darwinian-view-of-a-successful-it-organization/.

It addresses one perennial problem of an IT organization and its Leader, the Chief Information Officer (CIO), namely how to be successful. While the target audience is very specific, the approach that I offered could be applied to other fields of endeavour as well.

Your feedback (here and over there) is most appreciated.

  22. WHEW! I finally finished my task of solving a problem for my readers. I decided to create a categorized list of homeschoolers on Twitter, so people can find those Tweeps who are interesting to them specifically, and also see all the resource and community Twitters in the same place. Hoping not to start too much controversy with my categories.

  23. I received a comment from a young woman about the creation of impossible beauty standards through advertising. In this particular post, I wrote about what my husband, who works in advertising, had to say.

I wasn't sure that the young woman had read my previous post, so I approached the issue from another angle to make my original argument clearer.

Luckily, I tapped into the success of Susan Boyle to further illustrate my point.

Feel free to comment / tweet / stumble etc. if any of the following is related to your niche.

A medical view on how to be happy

How you can save the rain forests

How to close hacker back doors to your PC

Thanks for the useful tips by @ChristiannH on #meditation and @Ulrich on #evernote. We tweeted/hash tagged and commented on your posts.

  27. The entire premise of my blog is solving problems -- all of the basic and not-so-basic parenting struggles. Some content comes from my own experience, some from frets I heard as a teacher, some from observations at the neighborhood playground or grocery store. I'm grateful that there always seems to be a topic presenting itself and hopefully solving or easing some of my reader's problems.
