Day 19 - Write an Opinion Post

(69 posts)
  1. Sorry this is late - major hosting problems yesterday. Here's my opinion post: Good Writing - It's Not Complicated.

  2. Stated my opinion about certain products sold temporarily in Finland, posted about some of Jardin Bio's quinoa products.

But this being a very odd sunny Saturday in Finland, statistics are going pretty low. All the people are still sitting outside and having the time of their life. Maybe I should make another opinion post about that ;)

  3. OK, took me an extra day, but I did it. I posted my thoughts on the recent G20 summit as an article I saw last night on the Drudge Report sent me over the edge. It is a little graphic for a stay-at-home-mom, but my thoughts are very clear on where I believe we should be standing. Feel free to leave me a comment here, on my blog or email me at mrschattypants@gmail.com. I actually hit the publish button, promoted it and then walked away. So, that being so, let it rip. LOL!

  4. Summertomato - I agree with you on the food issue.  It can be scary to consider that we might alienate our readers, but it sure can get the conversation rolling.  Two of my alltime most popular posts were ones that questioned the practices behind Jessica Seinfeld's book, Deceptively Delicous.  She talks about improving kids nutrition by blending veggies and hiding them in food.  While I agree that it is great to try to get kids to eat well, I completely disagree about the sneaky component.  After all, I teach healthy cooking classes to kids and value each and every ingredient that we use.  It was fun to see the comments, defensiveness and small insults that people threw around on my blog!  But the conflict did make me uncomfortable at times.  I'll have to see where else I can apply this concept, but without being preachy - perhaps inviting discussion.

  5. Fantastic idea. Thanks Darren for your valuable idea. Blogger we are not slave of others. We are human being. We all are independent why we follow others blindly. As a man every human heart has his own feelings. Blog is the right place to express that feelings. I have been following your advice from the begining. Every blogger should follow your advice.

  7. Here is my opinioin post.  I'm glad that celebrities are using twitter - but they really are missing the point.  Its called Oprah and Ashton are on twitter but Have NO Clue what they are missing!

Twitter is an amazing tool to connect, encourage and motivate others - not a one way conversation.

Let me know if you agree, disagree and why.

  8. I typically write opinion pieces and work hard to maintain a balanced point of view. I find extremist views rather tedious and would only engage if I felt the topic was compelling enough to respond... Is the author writing to get a knee jerk reaction? Are they just pitching for a fight? I dont respond to either type - just my two cents.

I can be combative and have been so when necessary, but I find that approach pointless in my blog because my themes revolve around mirth, motivation and advice. We can have an opinion without fighting words ... afterall, you weren't exactly calling for a drag in the mud debate. lol!

I am enjoying this process and learning a lot from everyone here. The 31Day Challenge has been a great ride so far and I look forward to the rest of it.  My opinion piece is on Malaria - perfect for Malaria day; a topic close to my heart - on a very personal level too. All comments/questions are welcome. Thanks all. Cheers!  Here it is:  http://bit.ly/mmDwC

  14. I consider many of my articles to be opinion posts, since I'm writing my parenting methodology.  As I was going back to read them with this lens on, though, I think I should state my opinion more clearly and strongly. This will be an  ongoing focus for me. Here's one recent opinion post: Parent's anger: a healthy dose that might be particularly interesting to you parents out there.

  16. I started the challenge late so technically I am not at this spot yet.  Though it has been in my head because most of my posts have been fact based / editorial.  I realized that I am intimidated to really let go and release my opinion.  Well, I tested the waters by posting a "BTW, soon I'll have to write about such and such problem" on Facebook via Twitter/Tweetdeck.  I got 4 replies within 1 minute from Facebook from people within my niche leaving their passionate feedback and all I mentioned was the TOPIC. I'm hoping this will turn into some dialouge when I write the article! I'll keep you all posted! Lakita

  19. Oh I love to give my opinion! Blogging is the perfect format. I mean it is Freedom Of Speech and all that stuff. But what are your really using that freedom for?

I have set a criteria for my opinion blogs:

Does my blog Invalidate...Dominate....or Enhance others?

I wrote my opinion blog today.

You are welcome to leave your opinion also.

  21. I was stuck until I started reading dad blogs, which are related to my niche.  I found a juicy topic that I could easily rant on, but in a fun way.  What's great is that the post is Mother's day related so maybe it'll get picked up.  Anyway, here it is:

  22. I posted mine a few days ago, and I am really happy with the results.  A nice handful of interesting feedback.  Not a ton of comments, but more than any other post I've written to date.  I'll definitely make it a point to continue to write more posts like this clearly and directly stating my opinion in the future.

Thanks for visiting and commenting at Simply Blog. Appreciate it, :) I dropped a comment on your opinion post. Excellent job.

  24. Well, I wrote my opinion post about Miss Carolina http://karen.pnn.com/articles/show/43174-miss-california-stands-up-for-her-beliefs-you-go-girl.  Little did I know what a ruckus it would raise!  I got more comments on this post than on any of my other ones on all three blogs!  Quite a debate!

  25. From past experience being controversial or having an opinion can be dangerous sometimes. Especially if you are emotionally attached to the subject. You may feel regret for what you have said and it may impact your brand adversely. So never write when you are angry - calm down first.

    Book Review Opinions

A great way we found to write opinion posts is book reviews. As part of our editorial calendar we write a book review every Monday of a book we have read the previous week. Most books have about 14 chapters long so if you are diligent you can read about 2 chapters a day and catchup on the weekend. It's a worthwhile habit in life regardless and ensures you have content for at least one day a week. We recently did a book review  of "Zero Limits" by Joe Vitale. As a tie in to the previous weeks task we will eventually add a book-reviews sneeze-page that lists our book reviews.  TIP Be sure to tweet your book review with the #bookreview & #book hash-tags as well for greater exposure.

    Opinions Change The World

We are all aware of the issues facing our planet but at the same as bloggers we can make a difference. We can blog about causes and suggest people change their life-style. Recently we blogged about the Indonesian and Malaysian rain forest disasters and how one man made a difference and how we all can help save the rain forests by not purchasing products containing palm-oil e.g. some cosmetics, fried foods and even tooth-paste. Just read the labels before you buy.

  26. I combined this task with a few others, and edited an opinion post I'd previously written.

It is about my view that there is no such thing as equality in the home between partners. And that its ok not to be equal.

It is called One relationship, two careers - how to cope.

  27. Ok - so I am a bit behind on the topics but no one seems to have raised the issue around the potential to be sued. Our local airpline apparently sued a blogger who was having a full go at their shoddy service which in the end is his opinion - so where is the fine line?

    Any ideas?

  29. @whatscooking @summertomatoe,

Somebody has to put forward the truth.

We are responsible to teach our children to eat right. Children learn by example. The idea of hiding vegetables is so foolish. We ate lots of fruits and vegetables when we were kids. I have passed that on to my own kids. I am proud when I sit down to my daughters dinner table and see what she has prepared. My husbands eating habbits changed when he married me. He doesn't complain.

    Keep up the good work!

@Migwickert - Thanks for commenting! It has been fun going different sites and seeing what everyone is doing. Hearing the different opinions.

@Rachel - great post! Good sound advice in an area of life that could use some.

@Marman - Great looking family! They look happy. I wish you success.
