Day 3 - Promote a Post

(153 posts)
  1. Today your task was to Promote the List Post you wrote yesterday.

    • What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?
    • What results did you have?
    • What would you do differently next time?
    • What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?

  2. I promoted my list post through Twitter & Social media sites as I usually do. It went really well and hitted the front page of Digg, Delicious,...

  3. I attempted to promote my Posts via Social Net. Sites i.e Orkut, Twitter, Yahoo Answers and via Yahoo Messenger and Gtalk (providing the Post and link to post in the status message)...And also by posting about my post on other sites...

Yahoo Answers gave me good traffic for the post that i had done on keyloggers...

Next time i would try Social Bookmarking sites such as Digg, Stumble Upon, etc...

  4. I belong to an aggraget feed (http://www.rpgbloggers.com/) and already use Twitter and a wordpress plugin for Twitter. I also got lucky and was able to link it as an early comment on one of your posts in this project. That got me extra traffic beyond the norm :)

  5. I have promoted one of my blog post to notice the difference. The post which I choose to promote is Tax Planning for 2009. The following are the tips which I would say important to promote a blog post :

    1. Write the post with high quality. There should not be any grammer or spell mistakes. The post should make a good impression to the first time readers.
    2. Try to write the post for atleast 2000 words. That is needed to write a complete article. Make sure readers understand the concept clearly.
    3. If the post has good number of comments that will give good impression amoung the readers. Please to all comments nicely. Make them understabd that you are the master in the niche.

The above are the tips for writing good post. I have followed the following apparoch to promote a blog post:

    1. Send the mail to blogger to add in their blogroll
    2. Posted comments on related post with the link. That is been published and responded by the blogger.
    3. Check the google SERP for the post for related keywords. After increasing the backlinks please check if there is any improvement in SERPs.
    4. Use google analytics to track the pageviews for that page. Check if there is any increase.

I hope this is enough :)

  6. I promoted my post on Twitter. All my posts get pushed to Twitter using the Wordpress-to-Twitter plug-in. It's connected to my cli.gs account that counts the number of hits (human and otherwise). I didn't 'Stumble' it but one of my readers did, which was nice.

My post was a really long one - much, much longer than I normally post. It's an in-depth guide to digital cameras, and shows the real comparisons in results from SLRs and little compact cameras (there must be some, otherwise everyone would just buy little point and shoot cameras and save the expense and the weight, wouldn't they?).

So now I am looking at my stats on Google analytics and Mint (from haveamint.com) and as usual, they don't agree, but that's another story.

I am not happy with the number of people I picked up from the post and don't know how to do more and am really pleased to be in this program to push things forward.

  7. I'm inspired by this program and want to suggest to bloggers in my sphere that we get together.  This way we could link to each other more often and also use twitter etc to promote each others posts.

So if you blog about Leadership and/or Productivity could you please leave your blog and email addresses and twitter name in a comment on this post and I'll sort a way for us to help each other.

    Cheers

  8. I've promoted my list post (12 Attitudes A Successful Blogger should Have) and link post (66 Professional Bloggers You Should Follow) in social networking site such as Digg, StumbleUpon, and etc. Besides these, I've submitted it to my local ping site as well. It could brings me some traffics too.

Between, I'm still looking for ways to generate more traffics to my site? Anyone could suggest me?

  9. I regularly promote my posts via Twitter. When it comes to promoting it directly with another blogger, my shyness tends to take over. My current plan is to develop good relationships with bloggers I respect through Twitter, commenting on their posts, and then eventually email.

Does anyone have any success with just emailing someone out of the blue?

  10. I've tried to promote using Twitter, Digg, blog-visits... And also a couple of write in's to same-niche bloggers. Not (yet) receiving any feedbacks but that's ok. It's a little out of the blue as well to approach them like that. Hopefully it's a good training and not stopping me to try again in future. ^^ Same to anybody who've tried, I'm sure we all learnt something, that's to never give up trying.

  11. I didn't do a lot. Just tweeted and posted to a few social media sites.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  12. I contacted two other blogs to promote the post I've chosen. It was my list post. The funny thing is that I did not get an reaction but in my statistics I see that there comes traffic from another blog everyday ever since to this post. Funny, because it was not one of the blogs that I contacted.

I also leave comments in other blogs but never with the intention of publicity. I think that most people do this to obviously anyway and this will backfire at some point. Whenever I comment it is without the thought of extra traffic. Pure interest for the topic. If a post doesn't interests me I don't comment.

The result of this approach is additional traffic, what I see as a reward for being honest.

  13. I have a couple of posts that i've been promoting this week through social media like twitter, digg, reddit, stumbleupon, tip'd, and a couple of others.  Certain posts seem to do better in certain venues.

One list post that I promoted has done really well on twitter - "125 Personal Finance Twitter Users All Personal Finance Junkies Should Follow", as well as through personal finance boards/etc.    It has been retweeted quite a bit and has almost 70 comments so far!

  14. I regularly plug my better posts on twitter and facebook ... yet my results are consistently low. It works ... but we're talking between 4-10 hits a day, max. Seems hardly worth the effort. But I'm new to twitter, so maybe it's a momentum thing.

  15. I promoted 8 Reasons to Use Delicious for Social Bookmarking on Twitter, Digg, Stumbleupon, Facebook, and FriendFeed.  I find that these networks definitely bring in the most traffic, especially Twitter and Stumbleupon.

With Facebook and Friendfeed, instead of just posting the link in my main page or feed, I also went deeper into the sites and joined groups that pertained to the topic of my post, and shared the links in there as well.  I noticed more traffic from Facebook using this approach than I normally receive, and also a few more subscribers on Friendfeed.

  16. I am promoting my post about 10 things to do in Granada, Spain, to regional English-language sites in Andalucia. I emailed one editor, who I know quite well, and put a comment on the other editor's blog.  But I couldn't ask to link to her blog - I felt it was too pushy, even though it's strongly relevant. Sigh. I can't even email her as there is only her blog site to respond to.

I am going to venture into Twitter territory this week and see if that's a good way to promote my site.

  17. Wow. On a whim, I joined a few different social-networking link-sharing places and posted a few "test" subjects. (So as not to be totally "me" centered, I posted links to things I have found helpful as well as to my own blog postings.) I have avoided promoting my own posts on StumbleUpon because this apparently violates the terms of use, but other sites don't seem to mind.

Last night, I posted "14 Reasons to Stop Evangelizing Your Friends" to the Christianity topic on Reddit. The visitors are pouring in! It seems Reddit is good if you have something that fits one of the topic areas and is controversial.

One curious thing about Reddit is that it offers its own commenting system, so everyone is commenting and having discussions there rather than in the comments on my blog. So unfortunately this leads people to leave my blog and go back to Reddit. But I can't argue the increase of eyeballs!

    • What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?

I posted 3 Tips for New Dance Ministries on Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace

    • What results did you have?

I'll come back to let you know if there is any significant increase.  I normally post on Twitter and Facebook, but I have more friends in my niche on Myspace.  Hoping this will cause a spike

  18. This is the hard part for me. Apparently, I'll need to begin to twitter. I did send my post, "Keggers Next Time?," (http://theplumduff.blogspot.com/2009/04/keggers-next-time.html) to Bobo's Carnival of Politics and Mike's America. I do comment on other blogs, hoping some readers will click back to me. That works a little, but not greatly so far.

  19. I'm way late with this, but I got innundated with Twitters! Seriously, Thursday evening I had about 23 followers and in that same neighborhood of those that I followed. I now am pushing 90 followers and following. Evidently this #FollowFriday thing is HUGE. It started late in the morning and has continued on through today. And I still don't know what I did.  I've been on Facebook and Twitter for awhile and have developed some good friends there, but was completely blindsided by this. I'm still buried under studying lesson 3 about posting a link. Lots of material ... and I keep taking side roads. Sheesh!

  20. I tweeted my list post, 10 Tips for Parenting through Self-Injury, this afternoon.  It was retweeted a few times and got some conversation started on twitter.  In addition, traffic increased for the first time in a while.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  21. I used my twitter profile to promote my post "Things not to do when hitting on me" )

  22. I kinda did today'as task before even getting it as I have a few places where I advertise after I post a new post, but I do need to work on the social media area a bit more.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  23. I tweeting a few times on twitter to drive traffic to my list post?
  24. it was friday that I posted and i did notice increased traffic over the weekend on my blog
  25. I would also post to other sites - I need to actively participate more on other's blogs - I would post to LinkedIn as well
  26. the more you 'advertise' the more likely you are to get hits/ readers.

    Hello Folks,

My list post was put together from feedback found at the Thou Shall Blog. It's called 10 Definitions of a Successful Blogger. I'm a writer for Thou Shall Blog, and we asked the community around that blog to provide us with their opinion on what a successful bloggers is. As the comments poured in, I thought it would be fun and interesting to randomly take 10 responses, cite the blogger and link back to their site. :)

Results: Not to shabby, comments and traffic were decent. Some came back to say thanks for the link, add to their comments and so on.

I promoted the post on Twitter, Digg and Facebook which is usually the extent of my promoting, as far as social sites is concerned. Leaving quality comments also invites replies and shout backs. There's always things we can do differently and improve upon. For me, I guess more forum participation would be helpful. Cheers!

I mainly use Facebook, I link every post myself. The feed also goes to several places, Twitter and such. Facebook really works, quite a large number of readers come through it. Some content I do stumble myself.

I do think that language and niche together are once again an issue, since people reading my food blog in Finnish are not people who do use Digg or StumbleUpon too much. I have provided AddThis button to help it and sometimes I do tell how to use those services to find interesting food things, but these things take time.

To promote my list post I actually did ask one of my friends to promote it too, she did respond well and I did give some link lovin' back. Link post was stumbled too.

I promoted my post in twitter and MSN live. Well, i am having i really low traffic but i guess someone from here or from twitter accessed my blog, because i detected some traffica from USA.

Next time i will try to make better posts and try to ask some blogger to promote it from me, so i can see if it works after all!

Well, i learned that we got to chase our readers somehow, and that we must use all tools we have to promote what we have to say.

Publicized by using twitterfeed to send to ping.fm, then to Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, FriendFeed, Plurk and LinkedIn. Added Google Analytics to the blog (Just before starting this series, I had moved the blog from my web site to blogger as blog.brewsterhouse.com). Also created internal links from three relevant pages in my site to the blog page. Finally, I've written to a blogger with whom I have a relationship and asked if she would consider a link.

My blog is normally very low traffic, so I'm interested to see if this helps to bring any more traffic.
