  1. As i've said before, my blog isn't one that has a lot of content that is interesting to people outside the knitting niche, but all my posts go to Twitter (twice actually, once by me when I've finished writing, and then automatically about an hour later) as well as feeding to my notes in Facebook, and that seems to generate enough activity to keep me happy.  I've also just started using Stumble and Digg.

I also have to keep in mind what time I post, to try and catch the most people - being based in New Zealand means i'm usually posting at odd American times, so I may miss some traffic there.

My most popular post recently was one written a couple of days ago about how I'm quitting my job to take up full time study - goes to show the personal side does pay off!

  2. Hello all,

My blog is really really new. I already have an automated twitter publiciser, but since I don't have much of a following on twitter yet (Just a couple of weeks old there) it doesn't really do much.

On Facebook I do have a lot of friends who are from Ethiopia or have been in Ethiopia at some point and since my blog is for that group of people, I sent a message out asking them to read the post I wrote for the Day 2 challenge. It seems to have gotten me some traffic with 14 views today :) I know it's not great but it's a start hey :)

I had a previous post - a review of an online marketplace - that had a positive comment from another blogger who wrote on the same topic. So I sent him a message asking if he'd link to that post since he found it useful. I'm still awaiting response on that one.

I'm beginning to realise how important it is to spent time reading other blogs on similar topics and building relationships with the bloggers. That is a long-term project, but thanks Darren for this challenge that's getting me going faster than I probably would have if I hadn't joined :)

    Cheers,

    David K

  3. I'll have to update what I said up there. I've had 48 page views today, 30 of which where on the post promoted. Since my previous busiest day had a total of 32 page views, this is definitely progress :) I actually had a comment from someone I didn't know. Thrilled:)

  4. I have my posts automatically posted to my Twitter account.  I also have a family/friend FaceBook account where I get regular attention for my posts.  In fact, one of my old high school classmates is a regular commenter.

I've got the e-mail signature thingy going.  I've got my wife using my signature in her personal emails as well.

I just started submitting to Ezinearticles.com so I can't comment on the returns so far as my first article is still in review stage.  I hesitated to use this form of promotion for a long time since I thought major re-writing/ spinning were necessary.  However, when Chris Knight, CEO of Ezinearticles.com posted his blog article titled, "Repackaging Articles is NOT Derivative Content" it cleared up all my fears.

The one thing I am MOST PROUD of though is that I landed a regular guest posting gig at my mentor, Charles Burke's Bulls-Eye Living website.  In addition, I will be partnering with him on future projects and products.

My favorite forums (SOGR) are also good places to get traffic.

These are my favorites and they are working, slowly but surely!

    All the best from Toronto,

    Russ

    • What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?
    • As soon as i wrote my post, I wanted ot share it, even before reading the next class lesson. I sent out an e-mail to about 20  people aand mentioned it on a forum.
    • What results did you have?
    • I got 22 hits instead of 1 or zero and one comment.
    • What would you do differently next time?
    • Since reading lesson three, I've started looking into Digg and stumble upon. I don't know how to get into stuble upon yet. I tried to add a button for readers to connect through google reader but I need to ask my techy husband why it isn't working. I haven't started twitter yet either. I did mention it on my facebook page.
    • What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?
    • Being proactive works. One little step at a time I can do. XD

  5. I link to my blog from my photography website, and I post to Facebook and have an email signature. I promoted a post on a Zoo Chat forum - animal pictures- (www.zoochat.com), and I added a gchat signature.

My blog is new, so I can't really tell how much difference these actions made. I have Google Analytics and Google Webmaster tools, but I am not sure how many visits to expect.

  6. My blog just launched this week. I've been promoting all of my posts through Twitter and Facebook, but I went the extra mile with my list post on 11 Fabulous DIY Mobile Ideas and submitted it to Delicious, Digg, and Kirtsy, and I also contacted the bloggers whose ideas I included in my post and let them know they were featured. It's too soon to tell the full impact, but I'm already seeing a little extra traffic trickle in from Kirtsy.

I don't know what I'd do differently next time. As you said in your lesson post, not every post requires or deserves the same approach, so I guess I'll take it one post at a time and pay attention to what works best.

  7. I usually do all of my promoting through Twitter, Facebook and direct mail to my mailing list. This time I decided to do a search for a blog that covered the posts subject. 21 facts about selling art at a street fair I actually joined and posted on Art Fair Insiders.

On the day that I did this post, my traffic was the heaviest it has ever been and for the first time I've had more than 1 comment. At this point I've had a total of 7 comments.

This lesson has definitely taught me that it is important to look for new places to promote. My additional benefit is a new community of artists.

  8. This assignment was a tad harder for me, since I don't usually promote my work off of social networks.

I promoted my list post 5 Ways to Maximize Your Clixsense Earning Potential. I commented on a few blogs and Yahoo Answers. I also submitted the article to carnivals as well as social networks.

Next time I'm going to try (maybe) to ask a blogger to link back to my post. Hopefully everything works out.

  9. What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?

I used mainly social networking - I put my post on Twitter, on StumbleUpon, and I specifically asked a few online friends to check it out.  I also left more comments in other blogs, particularly ones that use CommentLuv which gives a direct link to my last post.  I was more active in a relevant forum that I've neglected for a while, and put the lin kin my signature.

    What results did you have?

I increased my pageviews fivefold, and I got a couple comments!

What would you do differently next time?

Possibly find other places to promote, or improve my promotion techniques.

What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?

I learned I need to find more avenues to promote, and I need to learn to use the avenues I do use more effectively.  For example, I'd like to learn more about properly developing a Twitter following, so maybe people would retweet my posts.

  10. Hi

Took me a few days to read up on Digg, twitter and touch up my facebook.

I am moving on to commenting on blogs that share similar objective with mine which is to promote local domestic tour in Singapore. It showcase factories, warehouse and places not commonly known to overseas tourist or even local.

What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?

Currently, I am promoting through facebook, while keeping a lookout using google analytics and key words deemed important by google. I have setted up twitter account and is diligently studying other tools.

    What results did you have?

The number of unique visitors increased. Amazingly I got a visitor from Dubai contacting me asking me to show her around Singapore for a fee.

What would you do differently next time?

Why next time? Still not too late to amend my blog. I will create more internal links to make seach and browsing easier. Currently blogger store my article by date and it is very difficult to find what you want in a logical manner. I am going to change that.

What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?

I think this forum is fanstastic. As you read through the articles you have more and more knowledge and may feel overwhelm initially. I think stepping out of comfort zone and don't be too shy in promoting one own page or self is important. If you don't promote your own site who will? So my blog (direct to the page that remind people what to do or not to do in organsing tour) URL is http://www.singaporelocaltour.com/2009/12/5-do-and-dont-do-of-arranging.html

  11. 1-I contacted a friend and asked him to Stumble my post.

2-I submitted my post to a Blog Carnival on BlogCarnival.com

3-Tweeted several Tweets on Twitter which led to a retweet.

4-Contacted the owner of a well established blog in my niche and (politely) asked for a link.

5-I'm inviting all of you to check out my post and leave a comment (if you haven't already): http://www.effectivefamilycommunication.com/13-positive-affirmations-for-relaxing/

  12. The whole duplicate content thing is a myth, the only thing it does it bring down the value of the links.

As tested and talked about alot by members of the warrior forum.

Your site will not be sandboxed if the same content appears elsewhere, only if the amount of links going back to your site increases stupidly or you are spamming :)

I have a special Twitter, and Facebook accounts for promoting The Shopping Nazi. The use of WP to Twitter is a great little plug in. Then I sync Twitter to my Facebook.

From reading today's lesson, I need to spend more time on other blogs and websites, reading and leaving approiate comments.

  13. I am using Video blogging as it fits my purpose...use most of the main social network sites to post a link or the video itself and link it back to my blog. Check it out...maybe video blogging is something for you too?

    • What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?

I have my blog linked directly to my Twitter and Facebook feeds. Throughout the week, I will pop on various blogs, and link my posts in my comments.

    • What results did you have?

I also asked on both Twitter and FB if anyone had any tips for promoting a blog. I got two great Facebook replies that really put the day's task in perspective.

    • What would you do differently next time?

I will begin participanting in other blogs, to hopefully guide traffic to mine.

    • What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?

That it's possible the hardest thing about having a blog. I wish I could find an easier way or service. I'm going to go check the other replies for this one though. :)

    • What methods did you attempt to promote your post with? I use Twitter, Facebook
    • What results did you have? I got some traffic but not very much
    • What would you do differently next time? Will have to learn more about the Stumble Upon, Digg, and the likes I'm completely have no clue on how to use them.
    • What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others? I should be more proactive by visiting same niche blog and hoping they'll visit mine in returns. I'm still quite shy in promoting my blog :)

  14. 1)  used Twitter and facebook to promote my posts in.  I also use stumbledupon and digg to book mark the post.  I also commented on a few blogs that had comentluv enabled.

    2) Yet to be determined, but I imagin I will get some traffic from twitter and some more from other blogs I posted comments on.  That usually sends the most traffic my way

    3) I'm not sure what I would do differently next time, I just think I need to gather more of a network of other like minded bloggers to promote my posts to their followers.

    4) I should be consistent, but only promote posts that I think are my best and ones that have been well received by my readers.

  15. I can't say I've seen any significant traffic as yet. I've got a dedicated Twitter feed, a YouTube channel, and a Facebook fan page. I try to Stumble a post if it's good, and I've submitted a couple to Digg. But nothing that's groundbreaking.

  17. What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?My best success with this was with my first photo contest on the blog where I promoted my post on all related Flickr groups (I was giving away Picnik membership in partnership with Picnik) and in all forums on the web related to Picnik or Flickr. Of course I used Twitter and Facebook which are the 2 standard methods. I also used my own Flickr account and posted a photo of a sample contest entry to various groups. What results did you have? Results were shocking. This became my most popular blog post with some 48 comments (I responded to a few so say about 40 comments/entries) and traffic that I think came back to my site later. What would you do differently next time?I think I need to focus on doing more of the same with relevant and appropriate blogs. Time for another contest. What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?Still learning but something has to be in it for them to read my post. I definitel had something with that post!

  18. I always use facebook & twitter. For something new, I linked another blog to my post & let them know via email. In return, they linked a similar post back to me.   Thier blog has much higher traffic than my own & I gained several new followers!

  19. For my last post I promoted, I went to tip'd, twitter, and StumbleUpon. Tip'd sends less people, but since they're already interested in finances, they tend to explore the site for a few pages.

  20. I promoted my post through twitter, facebook, and digg.  I also joined ballhype and promoted my post there.  My blog is now a listed sports blog with ballhype which works while I'm focused on the Olympics but once it's back to skiing, life, and training I'm not sure if I want every post to show up there.  I also entered a contest to go to the Olympics and got more traffice by working on that.  Got to talk about blogging about the Olympics on a radio show, The Takeaway.  All because of my Olympic posts!  They listed my blog on their site which increased traffic.

  21. I made a list post giving my top 10 tips for better wedding photos (I am a wedding photographer). As soon as I posted it, I went onto Twitter and Facebook to promote it. I also wrote that any other wedding professionals could feel free to post it on their blogs or link to it and so far I have 2 links~!

  22. What methods did you attempt to promote your post with?

The list post I wrote for Day 2, I promoted on Twitter, Facebook and, of course, the Problogger forum! Since then, I wrote another list post in response to a challenge I joined on another blog. I posted the link on Twitter, FB and in the blogger's comment section in response to his invitation to his community to do so. I also edited one of my very first posts and submitted it to ezinearticles.com!

    What results did you have?

Nothing unusual happened when I promoted the Day 2 list post on my social networks - got a couple of clicks but no comments. As for the challenge list post, the blogger promoted my link and I got 11 reads from his readers, a few comments & shares on FB, and someone tweeted the post, too! I'm waiting for an approval from ezinearticles.com regarding my submitted post; I'll make sure to come back here and let you all know how that promotion technique worked. :)

What would you do differently next time?

I'll try utilzing Twitter more effectively. I know I've been missing the whole `social' aspect of it and I'm afraid I'm coming across all wrong with my followers. Hello, social ettiquette!

What have you learned about promoting posts that you could share with others?

I've learned not to take my life purpose, biz goals and social media so seriously. It feels' like I'm not working when I'm on them (shouldn't I be producing more content?!). But I'm finally realizing that social media is all about fun! The idea is to take the time and get involved with communities and people, and when it's truly appropriate and relevant, that's the time to share content!

I'd love to hear other people's challenges with social media and if my lessons about letting go and having fun on them resonates with anyone else.

  25. I had a pretty cool thing happen with today's task and my blog, Furthermucker.

Yesterday's list for me was a Top 10 Albums of the 2000s list, which I automatically promoted through Facebook and Twitter, as usual.

But re: today's task, I took it a step further. I reached out to the blog Bold As Love, which deals with African-Americans in rock music. I added them to my blogroll and asked them to promote an older post of mine, Being a Black Rolling Stones Fan, something more relevant to their demo.

The author of the blog immediately put up a post talking about me, my blog, and that older post! He called it Miles Marshall Lewis on Being a Black Rolling Stones Fan.

    So, it worked! Thanks.

  26. What methods did you attempt to promote your post with? Posted on Twitter, FB and a couple of bridal forums. Also started using the Networked Blogs app on my business page of FB which has been useful.

What results did you have? My tweet was retweeted and people commented on the list in FB. I only tweeted it once though because most of my Twitter  followers are photographers as well.

What can I do differently? I need to find a way to get more clients and friends as twitter followers. Most of my followers are photographers as well so it hasn't been that great business-wise. (Yet!)
