Hi,
yesterday i emailed everyone saying my latest posts in the email and i'm amazed in analytics the % of returning users increased.. yes it really helped thanks :)
Holla!!!
can u provide a format or tell us wat format we bloggers should use in a letter to a reader...??
That task didn't provide any result on the day I used it, but I started to use it on a regular basis from then.
I try to write to commenters that make good points, and thank them for the good comment. The impact doesn't look impressive, but I think that it's an important part of blogging.
I didn't, and probably won't, email a reader but I do answer comments every time and have a plugin so commenters can be emailed updates, something I find of huge use myself when commenting.
People wil engage me in dialogue when I answer comments and seem more likely to keep commenting.
My website is a little Social Network for Italian chess players, so most comments come from members who are alreardy registered to my website. Could it be a good idea to write them an email or a private message to thank them about their comments?

I was wondering how you are able to email your readers ? how do you run a mailing list other than feedburner ?

digmocouk - the point of this days task was to email single readers who left comments on your blog. You get their email from the comment that they leave and then shoot them a personal email - it's not about emailing large numbers of readers at once.
I've just emailed three of my visitors, two of them from comments left recently and the third was the winner of a competition I ran in February so I want to see how he is going with the prize (a premium WP theme).
Taking it a step further I decided to visit a handful of other commentors sites and leave comments on some good posts of theirs. I like receiving comments and sometimes forget to write them for others as well!
No replies yet as I've just done it, but I think this is something I should do every couple of weeks at the minimum. Its no big deal to write a short, original note or two (or three).
The readers of my blog are pretty much regulars at this point but, just yesterday, I e-mailed a brand spanking new commenter, thanking her for her comment, engaging her in a brief bit of dialogue on the topic, and inviting her to send any quetsions along that she'd like to see me cover in the future. And of course, I have her a big "Welcome to Freelancedom!" She immediately responded, thanking me for the warm welcome, and expressing an eagerness to keep on participating in the future.
It gave me the warm fuzzies, and I lan on continuing to do this in the future. It's so important to me to connect with my readers on a more personal level. I feel as if we're building up our own little freelance network, in which we can help each other out and share tips and whatnot!

I wrote to a few, and haven't got much feedbacks yet. This is probably what I should be doing, and make it frequent, even do it once per month if possible. Although most readers are blogger friends we're contantly returning visits, perhaps it's time to be more serious into building the relationships by asking opinions, ideas and how we could prolonged each others blogging journey further.
That was a hard task for me, I do not like to write email to my readers, probably because I don't like to receive email from unknown people. I tried thought and I got some anwers, but it is a little early to see some results from this try.
Instead I like to anwers on my own blog and reading the blog people leaves.

I was a bit unsure about emailing readers - especially if they use pseudonyms to post the comments. It feels like it might be an unwelcome invasion of privacy. In order to complete the task though, I emailed someone who had left a lot of comments and recently started her own blog - so I offered an open ear etc. It worked in two ways to make a connection with a blogger in my own niche and we've also corresponded a few times since and think there's a lot of work we could do together.
Is it possible that readers will be upset that I reached out to them via their email addresses? Could they be concerned about privacy issues, or feel weird that they didn't submit their email to my site but I found it out anyway?
@TotoMovies, I can't imagine why they would be upset to receive a direct "thank you" email from you. They did after all submit their email address when they left a comment.
If you sent them some kind of marketing email that might annoy them though.
I started with this before I got today's task. I must be weird as this is not the first time this is happening. Hehe...
I like this idea and even though I've not have any respones yet (have not checked my stats yet) it feels pretty good!
Thanks so much for the minitask on this one. I read through the comments to this task, clicked on a few links and found a genuine comment to make on each blog. BTW, you guys are doing some fantastic things out there, I was inspired. Finally, I got a comment back on my own blog (hat tip to Robert of Owenwebs) to which I responded with a grateful email. So ultimately, I was able to the the original task.
Homework is done.
I mailed the most recent commenter in a casual style just welcoming them to the site and engaging in some related stuff.
Now I guess, I'll wait and see what happens. This is definitely a technique that I plan to use more of in the furture.
I already do this. Though, I think that commenting back is more supportive and sometimes emailing someone you haven't developed a relationship with first can be a little 'blog forward." Unless a question is asked.
But, I like to read some of the bloggers who comment on blogs I follow/follow me. Then I comment there too. And, I always like to check out the blog of a new visitor (who's commented) and say hello and thanks for the visit.
I am really enjoying these exercises -- looking forward to the task for tomorrow! Happy Thursday to All!
I sent an email out to a couple of consistant commenters and then one to the most recent comment. I received an immediate response from the "new guy". I think people are used to getting automated responses and so a personal note from the blog creator really hits home.
Those who comment all of the time, need love too, but maybe it should be done with a giveaway or something, because I didn't get much response from them.

I simply visited the blogs of the 10 most recent commentors and left a detailed comment on their latest post. Luckily, they all pretty much had good content so it was easy. I got one reply comment thanking me for checking them out and adding to the discussion.
Not sure how I'd feel getting an email response about a comment I left, but I think commenting back is more beneficial in the long run.
Actually, i don't have any comments, my blog is recent, and so i comment on another blog's post about turism, wich is a subject i really like.
Don't know about impacts, maybe the blogger contact me because i let some invitations to him on the comment, like places to visit in my country.
As my blog is fairly newish, I've commented on a blog post from one of the 31DBBB participant.
It wasn't hard as I found the post quite interesting and relevant, especially in today's climate.
I'll wait and see if I receive a reply.
I had anyway responded to most people who had commented. I found one I hadn't and we are nw following each other on Twitter as a result of my email - let's see what happens.
I will certainly consider doing the email response as well as the comment response in future
Thanks
Clare

How did you find this task? I found this task important, because its a good thing to keep readers coming back and I actually used to do it back when I first started until I stopped for a while. I will continue to do it consistently from now on.
Did it have any impact? Not yet. I just emailed a couple of them so far.
How did you approach writing the email (what did you say)? I basically wrote the same message to all of them. Is that ok? I said thanks for visiting my site and I hope that they liked it. I think I should have said more like come back again.
I just left a comment on the blog of a commenter, as well as commenting back to her on my own blog. It’s an easy thing to reply with a short message of encouragement. I haven’t thought about actually sending an e-mail until I read this assignment for Day 5, so I will try it tomorrow (if I get any comments tomorrow! ha).
FYI, I have had people who read my blog send me an e-mail instead of leave a comment on my site. I like it either way and do not feel they were “forward” to do so. I have a “contact me” link with my e-mail address, so I invite comments either way.

This challenge was easy for me as I already reply to every comment as well as visit and comment on the sites of the people who visit and leave comments on mine. I also take the time to research and answer questions posed to me on my blog. My list post generated a few of those and I feel like I may have helped a couple of people.
Today's post was kind of frivolous but generated quite a bit of conversation!
I don't often get new comments so when I did, I made sure I checked out her blog and commented back on hers. I replied to the statement she made and really like what I saw on her blog, so made sure I told her so. I subscribed to it as well as I found it really interesting.
I'll definitely do this to every comment I get, it's a really great way of starting rapport and conversation :)
I think it's important to be a little formal with the first email. What do you think?
