  1. My blogs are so new, that unfortunately, I only have three comments, one from someone I don't know. I guess it's a start. I did pick up some great tips from "10 Techniques to Get More Comments on Your Blog", like asking more questions in the posts, inviting users to comment and creating open ended posts. I'm going to try all of these over the next week.

My blog is new, not many comments yet, only 3 and I already emailed them to show my appreciation. I just visited a couple of blog sites and left comments there.

  3. It went better than I expected; they ended up following on twitter as well to keep in touch.

  4. No one else has posted here lately. I am playing catch up right now. I should be on Day 7 of 31DBBB.

So it is late in the day and I am not going to e-mail anyone tonight, though I promise I will e-mail the next person who comments on my blog. I respond to my blog comments and at least once a week I spend an hour or so visiting my favorite blogs and commenting where appropriate.

I have to say that I have found blog commenting drives more traffic to my blog than any other technique so far, but I am hoping to learn more great stuff in the coming days.

    • How did you find this task? This is a good strategy, I don't normally email people, but I do try to build a community by responding to most comments and commenting on their blogs.
    • Did it have any impact? I'm not sure how well this has impacted my views yet.
    • How did  you approach writing the email (what did you say)? I tried a friendly and professional thank you

    • How did you find this task? Loved it, actually! I've had my blog for awhile now and most of my traffic is new from search engines. I knew I was missing a huge peice to building a readership and this exercise really drove home for me how I can build stronger relationships online. Oh! And I just assumed that people were subscribing to the comment feed...
    • Did it have any impact? I believe so! One of the commenters replied and thanked me for what I do. *puffed up chest* She also mentioned that she shared the post on her FB page and had already subscribed to my feed! Whoo Hoo!
    • How did  you approach writing the email (what did you say)? I thanked them for their comments on the post (provided a link). I referred specifically to their comment and suggested how it added to the post and/or helped the community. If they were a fellow blogger, I pointed out a connection between their last post/blog with my last post/blog. I also invited them (if they hadn't already) to read & contribute more to my blog's community by subscribing to my feed. (Side Note: I also subscribed to their feed but didn't mention it to them in the email.)

  5. Hello All, Here's my responce:

How did you find this task? – Great!  I really enjoyed acknowledging the responses.  I was lucky enough to have great comments so it made it easy :-)

Did it have any impact? – It did for me.  To recognize that people took time to read and write about they read was humbling that people are actually affected by my words.

How did you approach writing the email (what did you say)?  I used their name, referenced my blog (http://warriormindcoach.com/blog )and quoted their post and made a comment about their post.

I also went to a couple other blogs and made comments there as well.

    This was a great exercise!

  6. I have actually been doing this for several months now and I really appreciate the discussions that have blossomed from those initial emails. I have been able to build real relationships with many of my readers outside of the comments section of our blogs. This is a great tip for any blogger.

  7. As I am fairly new to blogging, comments from readers not only give me confidence in what I am doing, but also valuable feedback as to what is working or not. At the moment I am trying to reply to comments by commenting back via my blog or I’ll try to stop their blog and leave a comment there.

So all comments are welcome, if you’re a blogger how do you reply to your comments??

  8. I think I unintentionally did this one already..... Since my blog is still pretty new and I don't have many regular readers yet, I make a point of responding to every comment I get.

So this was pretty easy, easy enough that I did it unintentionally, before even reading the article!

  9. How did you find this task?

In the past I've always responded to comments on my blog, and I've emailed readers a couple times with more specific details. I didn't have any new comments to email so I started to get involved in other blogs in my niche.

    Did it have any impact?

I am not sure if there was any impact, time will tell. It was nice to seek out a few popular blogs in my niche and start to connect with other people interested in my topic. Even if no traffic comes from it, I found I can learn lots by participating on other sites.

How did  you approach writing the email (what did you say)?

In my comments I either added some of my personal experience to the original post or addressed other commenter questions.

  10. Well been jumping around and finally finished Day 5 Email a reader and/or comment. I did both. I can see there are rewards but it isn't necessarily one to one but as in Sales, you have to knock on a lot of doors. Here is my Day 5http://socialmedia.eileenteaches.com/blog/email-a-blog-reader-day-5-31dbbb/

  11. I actually started doing this task once I received my first comment. I didn't really understand the positive impact at the time. But what I've found is that those who I connect with return to the blog. And some of them add links from their blogs to my blog. Very cool.

If the person that leaves the comment doesn't leave an email address I search for their blog, either through the link to their profile, or try to figure out where they came from (twitter/facebook/etc.). Then I go to their blog and leave a comment. It think this is helping to drive return traffic as I've seen some of the same people returning to the blog.

  12. I have been replying to my commenters on my blog from day one since it doubles the comment #'s. It looks so lame to have zero comments. Most of my readers are my Facebook friends but I have been commenting on blogs which are commentluv enabled so that my latest post shows up. I always make it an insightful comment and will choose not to comment if I can't think of anything worthwhile. I have seen traffic from those sites almost immediately. I have found with the smaller blogs that the bloggers will then comment on my blogs in reciprocation.

I have not done the email thing. It feels uncomfortable to me. I realize that many people do not see my reply to them as they are not subscribed to the comments but I have to think a little longer about replying via email. It is not so relevant at the mo as my commenters are mostly my friends who know me anyway.
